1098-E Form (Student Loans)

The 1098-E Student Loan Interest Statement is an IRS tax document that records the amount of interest paid on your student loans during the previous year. You may have the option to deduct some or the whole amount from the income you report on your federal tax return, which may minimize your income tax. Consult with your tax advisor to figure out which interest is tax deductible.

For each loan account, you will receive a 1098-E if the interest you paid has reached or exceeded $600. Please note that you can receive 1098-E information from other loan servicers you have loans with.

Our office uses the services of ECSI, formerly known as Heartland Educational Computer Systems, Inc.,  to provide customer service and assist former students with repayment options including collecting and processing payments. They are also responsible for providing borrowers with their 1098-E tax forms. View the loans administered by Rutgers and managed by ECSI.
